The Governor’s Minute Clerk

Kirklees Council is very keen to support the work of school governing bodies by finding able people to act as clerk at governors’ meetings. On average school governors meet about six times a year, usually in the evenings. (A Guidance manual, Regulations and briefing sessions are provided).

The most immediate role of a clerk is to take notes of key discussions and decisions at School Governing Body meetings and at home turn them into minutes (using Microsoft Word). Minutes are then submitted to the School Governors Service at the Deighton Centre. You are not a governor, you do not vote, or contribute directly in the debate, however you will be expected to give procedural advice to support the Head teacher and Chair.

You will need access to Word Processing and Email facilities of your own. Agenda are sent to you and the governors from the office in Huddersfield. Staff there will support you and deal with questions you cannot answer.

The fee is currently £39.26 per meeting and reasonable travel expenses are paid.
