Every Kirklees school has a governing body consisting of 9 to 20 governors. The governing body decides the number. There are over 2,500
school governors who are elected or appointed from parents, staff, Kirklees Council and the local community. In Church schools governors are
elected or appointed by either the Catholic Diocese or the Church of England Diocese of Wakefield. Usually head teachers are governors.
The governing body and head teacher manage most day-to-day aspects of the school. Parents' normal contact with the school will be with the
head teacher or staff. But if a parent is unhappy about any issue and has been unable to resolve it by talking to the head teacher or head
of year, he or she can refer the matter to the governors. This is usually through the chair of the governing body. This communication needs to be
in writing and addressed 'care of' the school.
A profile of the school should be available to parents online on the school's website. Governing body minutes and other papers are available
for inspection at the school by any person.
