Located in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury Museum is the oldest of Kirklees' museums. Originally opened to the public in 1896, the museum has recently undergone an extensive programme of development, refurbishment and restoration.

Historic features of the grade 2 listed building have been revealed and restored (including wood panelling, ornate ceiling work and mullioned windows), along with installation of new galleries and improved visitor facilities.

*As the Museum is undergoing repairs there is currently no lift access to 1st or 2nd floors.

Visitors can revisit their childhoods and enjoy the museum's popular toy gallery and recreated 1940s classroom, in addition to the 'Discovering Dewsbury' local history gallery.

Within the 'Discovering Dewsbury' gallery visitors can discover aspects of Dewsbury's proud history including the town's foundations and how it has developed, along with its triumphs and its tragedies. In addition to discovering the people that have made Dewsbury their home and their hopes for the town. (* Unfortunately, this gallery is currently closed for repairs * )

The museum also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions and regularly features the work of local artists in its gallery space.

Access: Fire regulations mean that there are restrictions on the use of prams and pushchairs indoors. Please contact the museum for further details and any other access information that will help you to plan your visit.
