Kirklees councillors to discuss BSF

Kirklees councillors will hold a discussion on Building Schools for the Future (BSF) proposals for North Kirklees at the June 24 council meeting.

The BSF programme is a multi-million pound shake-up of secondary education aimed at significantly improving standards and achievement for young people.

Cllr John Smithson, joint Cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “The June 24 meeting will give every member an opportunity to express their views on the proposals.

“We are committed to enhancing educational opportunities for children and students in North Kirklees – there have been some important advances over recent years, but standards are not rising fast enough.

“These much-needed improvements to school provision cannot be made without major changes to the current arrangements.

“We have been listening to the views of the people involved, such as parents and students, but it’s important for councillors to also have their say in maximising the value of BSF to Kirklees.”
