Schools Adjudicator decision

The Office of the Schools Adjudicator has published a decision on appeals against the decisions by Kirklees Council to enlarge The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form and to discontinue Castle Hall School. The adjudicator, Canon Richard Lindley, has considered the issues afresh, and has not approved the proposals.

Cllr Ken Smith, joint cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “We have received the Adjudicator’s report on our proposals for the Mirfield schools.

“We thank Canon Richard Lindley for his report, for the in-depth work he carried out in coming to his decisions and the thoughtful way in which he has carried out his work.

“For now, we will spend some time considering the report to fully understand the implications of the Adjudicator’s decision.

“We’ll now take stock of our position and have discussions with officers and members before making an announcement about the next steps for Castle Hall and The Mirfield Free Grammar schools.”

Cllr Cath Harris, joint cabinet member for Children and Families, added: “We are committed to working in partnership with the leadership teams, governors and parents/carers at both schools for the common good of the children of Mirfield and Ravensthorpe and look forward to moving to the next stage of the BSF programme with the Mirfield schools.”
