Giant Jamie debuts at boxing international

International Amateur Boxing Tournament Kirklees v Cyprus, Friday May 30, 7.00 pm in the English Partnership Suite at the Galpharm Stadium.

Keith Senior and Jamie Fielden

Keith Senior and Jamie Fielden

Jamie Fielden is a giant in every sense of the word. He is an ex Huddersfield Giants rugby player and he is 6ft 7 inches tall and weighs in at 19 1/2 stone.

Jamie from Rawthorpe Amateur Boxing Club is topping the bill of the forthcoming show representing Kirklees against a team of top amateurs from Cyprus.

Not surprisingly, given his size and amateur status, Jamie has proved amazingly difficult to match so this bout will be his debut.

Jamie who comes from Halifax is relishing the chance to fight his first bout in front of home support. He almost quit the ring after the disappointments of a lack of competition and sees this as a great opportunity to start making a name for himself.

There are only a few places still available for the boxing with gala dinner. For details, contact Jim Beattie on 01484 234 093 (Mobile 07870 596 125)

British Lion and current Leeds Rhino star Keith Senior dropped in at Rawthorpe Boxing Club to wish Jamie all the best in his debut bout on Friday

Keith signed for the Leeds Rhinos in 1999 from the Giants and holds the record for most appearances in Super League having played in the very first game in 1996. Keith is also the Longest Serving Player in Super League history.

Keith made his international debut in 1996 and has been a virtual ever present for Great Britain since. He is widely regarded as the best centre in World rugby league and has been selected in the World XIII three times.
