The 10 Villages Conservation Group are continuing to help with the Great Crested Newt project in Clayton West on their next task day on Saturday, August 14.
The project is creating a suitable habitat for the protected creature by making a series of linked ponds alongside the Kirklees Light Railway line. The volunteers will be digging ponds and ditches.
Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Countryside Officer Andy Wickham, tel: 01484 222960/07773 386550. There is no cost to take part and no previous knowledge or experience is necessary. All tools and training on their use will be provided; stout footwear, outdoor clothing, waterproofs and a packed lunch will be needed.
The group will be meeting at 10am outside the Council Offices, Commercial Road, Skelmanthorpe.
The 10 Villages Conservation Group, which takes its name from the 10 main settlements in Denby Dale Parish, welcomes new members. The group works only in the parish of Denby Dale but people from any area can take part in its tasks.
