Kirklees Council’s Young People’s Service and Kirklees Aiming High for Disabled Children Short Breaks programme have joined forces to allocate the money for projects during October half term, the Christmas holidays and February half term.
It has been allocated to the Young People’s Holiday Activity Programme, which is designed to help local youngsters stay busy with sport, recreation, adventure activities, green projects and the arts.
Throughout August, groups in the voluntary and community sector can apply for funding to provide holiday activities that are free of charge. Projects need to cover age ranges 8-12 and 13-19, but the age limit rises to 25 for disabled people.
Activities that have been funded recently include:
Learning cookery skills for youngsters aged 8 to 12 in Slaithwaite
Arts, crafts and fun circus skills for 25 children in Ravensthorpe
Thirty young people in Cleckheaton attended dance sessions and also learned the art of DJ-ing
Multi-sport sessions in Dewsbury and Deighton, where people from all backgrounds joined together
Recreational activities for young people with autism and their siblings and friends
Organisations can apply for funding from August 1 to 31. Packs are available which include the different types of activity, an application form and more details about funding. Please go to www.kirklees.gov.uk/ypholidayactivities, email yps.projects@kirklees.gov.uk (with the word ‘pack’ in the subject box) or call 01484 225044.
