Dewsbury Spirit show 2013
Spirit, the annual street theatre event lands in town on Saturday 16 March with fire-spraying, mighty flying machines, all piloted by extravagant daredevils.
“Firebirds" is a show about the dream of flying. It is a competition between brave but crazy drivers and their attempts to get their flying contraptions off the ground.
Expect fire effects and explosions plus lots of fun as each of the pilots deliberately sabotage the others attempts to be the first to fly off into the night sky!
Look out for pit stops that turn dangerous as the pilots go through trials and rituals, trying to win the favour of the audience as they go. Which of them has the most beautiful flying machine and which is the best at flying?
Spirit will be Theater Titanick’s first visit to Kirklees but the show has wowed audiences around the world including Edinburgh, Chile, Portugal, France and Spain.
The dazzling aviation inspired street theatre show starts at 7.30pm and lasts around an hour. It all kicks off at Market Place stopping off along the way to a grand finale outside the Town Hall.
Cllr Jean Calvert, Cabinet Member for Health, Well Being and Communities said: “Each year Spirit grows bigger and better. It’s a wonderful family event, featuring internationally renowned theatre companies. I’m delighted that we can add Dewsbury to the remarkable list of places to have hosted Theater Titanick and their Firebirds show.”
“This year’s Spirit looks fantastic, it’s always great to see big performances like this in the centre of Dewsbury – showing off our wonderful buildings and creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Spirit is a free event so whether you’re an avid fan of street theatre or never seen a show like this before, come down with friends and family and make the most of it.”
