Kirklees Council, like most public bodies, makes a great deal of information easily available either on the website or in printed leaflets and brochures. While some kinds of information are of interest only for a short time, and will be withdrawn when no longer relevant or needed, other information is of greater significance and lasting importance. Much of this information is included in the Council's Publication Scheme.
The Publication Scheme is something that the Freedom of Information Act requires Councils and other public bodies to produce. It defines a number of classes of information that the Council publishes or intends to publish, and states where and how the documents that make up the classes can be obtained. It also states whether or not there is a charge. The purpose of the Scheme is to make important information available quickly and easily without the need for a written request. It is the intention of the Council progressively to extend the scheme to make as much information as possible available by this means.
The Scheme is available on the Council's website in the form of a searchable index, and printed copies can be inspected in public libraries.
